As a commissioned work by OpusOpal for a loyal customer, we have created this gorgeous gold necklace or opal collier with opal in 750 yellow gold. In this necklace is a beautiful colorful Black Crystal Opal set. The weight is 42.60 grams. The opal with an impressive play of colours as the main stone (no doubles, no triplets, no syntheses, real opal, just like mother nature created it) was cut as a fancy diamond. As accent stones we have set 6 very high quality diamonds.

Opal collier, Gold necklace, Black Crystal Opal, Diamonds - technical data
After we have decided on the design of the necklace pendant and the design of the chain links, some preliminary work has to be done. This includes the alloying and all the rolling and drawing work.
Each chain link is rounded off at the ends. This is not yet visible in the silver pattern.
Here we go.
Just under 70 grams of 750 yellow gold are now available for further processing.
First of all, the cast piece, which is intended for the wire, is now rolled a little thinner. This is the basis for the eyelets and chain connections.
Now the wire is drawn thinner and thinner hole by hole until a wire thickness of 1.3 mm is reached.
The wire would be ready by now.
Next, the sheet metal for the frame and floor of the pendant is produced.
After several rolling operations, the plate has now reached a very stable thickness of 0.8 mm and can be further processed for the pendant.
Now the thick oval wire for the chain links must be drawn to the correct thickness. This is not so easy anymore, so that my drawing bench is used here. Also here you have to pull through several smaller and smaller holes until the desired thickness is reached. PUH!
The exhausting job is done.
Now everything is disassembled into the required individual parts and prepared.
That would be all the parts needed.
A chain link rounded off at the ends.
Today we start with the setting and the necklace pendant. I let the pictures speak for themselves.
Before the eyelets for the necklace are attached, the pendant has to be polished almost to a high shine, because after that you can't reach the socket in the eyelet area anymore. So it is almost polished.
Now the brackets for the chain are attached to the pendant.
Now everything is polished to 2000 grit and now it goes into the polishing drum for 4 hours.
All individual parts are now assembled after passing through the polishing drum.
Looks pretty good already. Next 31 eyelets have to be soldered. This will be done tomorrow and after that it goes back into the polishing drum for a few hours.
Now all connecting lugs are soldered and it goes afterwards again for 2 hours into the polishing tumbler.
Now the eyelets become oval.
Next, the diamonds are set.
First put everything on top of it and see if everything looks harmonious and then you can start grabbing.
All the diamonds are in place. Now it's time for the opal.
Also the opal is now set.
Almost done. Now we just have to polish the necklace to a high gloss.
