Zwei Ringe für Abigail aus Großbritannien
Creating 2 spectacular Sterling silver rings for Abigail.
A realy nice story I want to tell you!
Abigail wrote me a mail on 27th August 2014:
What would the cost be to commission a ring using your O00060 Gem Black crystal 2 ct opal for my husband. A heavy 8mm wide all silver band satin finish size 19.10 uk T, with opal set in polished silver low lengthways on band. Like example r00047.
Thanks
Abigail
I answered her the same day:
Hi, regarding your request for creating a ring please give me some time to calculate. I am not in my office right now. I will give to you an answer at 21 o'clock.

I made an offer to her and we have written some mails regarding the design for her husband's ring:
... Good Morning,
That is wonderful , thank you for the code, that all looks good for Paul's ring, can you set the opal as low as possible? He dosnt like it too prominent. Monday delivery is great. I have been looking again at your rings, I really like the ice frosted look & am loving the colours in the boulder opal of R00067. If I changed my mind would it be a problem ?
Thanks
Abi
I told her:
Hi Abi,
yes I will set it as low as possible but I show it to you before I will finally set the stone. Lets do it this way. I will write an invoice for all at the end and send to you a prompt payment for paypal. (for this I need your email for paypal if it is not this email I am writing to) I think this is the easiest way. Now you can decide what the parcel should contain.
1. offer: Ring for your husband + R00092 for ... €
2. offer: Ring for your husband + R00067 (it contains a stunning Boulder Opal) + for ... €
3. offer: Ring for your husband + R00092 + R00067 for ... €
4. offer: Ring for your husband + each other piece with 10% discount
Or
show to your husband my shop sites and tell him your wishes for Christmas ;-) Please let me know.

There were some mails in between and suddenly she wrote:
Yes of course it would be wrong So sorry to be a pain, I have one more question. Your answer will decide for me. I have shown my daughter the opal for her Dads ring. She has picked out an Opal 000034 1.8ct Gem black Crystal .it is absolutely stunning :-) what I was looking for all along. Please quote for a ring for me all silver, ice frosting band as wide as required, Polished setting. Size UK M 1/2 or 16.71 mm. This would be instead of a ring for your catalogue.
Thank you so much, I will settle PayPal today if you invoice today.
Abi
I answered her:
Hi Abi
You are not a pain. You have to love the rings. Partner Look rings:
O00060 for your husband
O00034 (One of my best) for you
Both with the same look.
Total amount ... € for both.
I will involve you into the manufacturing process creating your rings.
Best regards

Dear Konstantin,
My final decision. I wish to order my Hubands ring as discussed And for myself... This opal 000034 Like my husbands ring, polished silver setting, ice frosting silver band the necessary width, in Uk M 1/2 , 16.92 mm . Please involve me in manufacture , I would love to see them being made. A matching set of rings is important to me, I hope your quote is reasonable, because this is a diffinate order.
Many thanks I await your invoice.
Abi
And this was the time we had a deal and we started designing and creating her rings:
Good evening konstantin,
I like to sketch & design rings so they are as individual as I am! Please feel free to ignore or if you think an idea works for the stone & ring size please use. Afterall you are making them & you know what works best for how a stone sets etc. These are two ideas designed to be pairs, #1 & #2. I am very excited , I think you can tell....
Kindest wishes

I answered her and the second day was done:
Hi Abi,
here are the first pictures. The file names describe what I mean. Please check and let me know which way and which form for the rings. Today I have prepared the Sterling Silver. Tomorrow I will cast the silver strands and roll them out to the appropriate length for each ring, thickness of 2.5 mm and 10 mm width. Expect the result.
best regards and have a good night.
Konstantin

I also showed the pictures to my daugther and she saw something and I wrote to Abi:
Hi
One hint given by my daugther. Do you see the light mirroring as lines on the surface of the dummy ring. What about this as a design element on one side of each ring
Best regards
Konstantin
Abi answered:
The lines are a lovely idea, Three I think, one for each of the children :-) To the right of the opal. I have sent back to you my prefered orientation of the opal, if you approve? Might my band be made narrower than 10mm? I think 10mm overpowers the size of the stone. I like the 2.5mm thickness. Can they both take the equal form, my husbands 10mm all around. And mine If you can 8mm all around?
I await your thoughts,
Abi

I wrote back to her:
Hi
Everything you have described will be done
Best regards
Konstantin
The third day was nearly done and Abi wrote to me:
Good evening Konstantin,
How has the project progressed today? Well I hope & to plan. I can't quite believe after all all my searching I found you, the right stones & design, brilliant :-) Shall you put lines right angle to edge? ( d ) Or on an angle to follow edge of opal? (c ) Or maybe as a 'fan', so first next to opal is angled, the next not so & the final at right angles? ( b ) Or maybe a fan radiating from the top point of the opal ? (a ) See picture... I'm quite liking ( b ) ?? What are your thoughts ?
Best wishes
Abi

I answered her:
Hi, it has started well. You should have received my mail with the pictures. I like also b more than the others. I will paint it onto the almost finalized rings before the lines will be cut. Then you can decide first.
best regards
Konstantin
And at the same time I had sent the following mail to her:
Hi,
some new photos. Next update will come tomorrow.
best regards
Konstantin

Abi's reaction has returned immediately:
Wow, the photos are wonderful, such an insight thank you so very much, it's great to see our rings take shape. The opals look amazing. I'm glad you like B. Let's go with that styling. Good idea to paint on before cutting. :-) Your English is brilliant, I learnt a tiny amount of German at school & had a German pen-friend whom I visited once, but that was 22 yrs ago ! I've remembered very little I'm afraid. Good luck for the next stage.
Best wishes
Abi
And so the day ended, too, with a last mail from me:
To me makes it also very much fun and I am glad that you are so excited. I can imaging how you wait each day for new messages ;-). Awaiting the next pictures again tomorrow around 21:30 to 22:00 clock.
good night and best regards
Konstantin
Abi:
Thank you, I am glad you are enjoying making them. I will wait for news tomorrow night.
Best wishes
Abi
At the end of the next day I sent the results of the day to Abi:
Hi Abi,
the rings are almost ready. The opals have to be set finally. The cutting has to be done and the final polish of the inner circles and the opal frame (?) have to be done. Now it is up to you to decide about the cutting. I have painted them on both rings. The lines will be thinner and will have equal space.
best wishes
Konstantin

Abi answered me:
Wow wow wow, they look amazing, well done, you've worked really hard. Thank you x The lines are perfect, yes cut them there please. The height of Pauls's opal setting looks good. Will mine be higher ? Or do you cut it down a bit ?. I don't mind it that high, it stands proud then to be shown off :-) I think sizes are good, I'm getting used to continental sizing. All go so far.
Abi
I wrote to her:
Hi, the frame for your ring will come down round about 2 -3 mm and the frame for your husband's ring will come down 1 mm after setting. Your opal is higher by default but if you wish I can cut away round about 1 mm of the back of the opal which is natural stone without color. But then your opal looses carats. I already have cut out silver from the hole where the frame is placed. Round about 1.5 mm for both rings. Tomorrow your rings are ready and I will publish them in my shop. I will send then the link to you. (The ring for your husband will be shown without a price, because of birthday gift) By the way, I plan to publish a little bit of our emails together with the pictures on my sites. Does it is ok for you. I will only use your name Abi and nothing else to protect your privacy, but I want to show to the folk out there our ...
best wishes
And she wrote back:
Yes, I understand about the cut out, that makes sense. Please do not cut away any opal...just finish the framed as you had planned. I had noticed my setting was taller that was all, & wondered why. Yes you may publish the making & our story, of course it is nice for people to see how your rings are made. I appreciate your discretion with my details, thank you. I can't wait to see them.
Warm wishes
Abi
And so ended the third day with a good feeling, too:
At the very next morning I received the following mail from Abi with the headline "The grand unveiling!"
Good morning Konstantin,
I am looking forward very much to seeing the rings finished, I am excited :-) You have worked really quickly & its great to see how they have evolved. I think the high polish of the opal frame will be a nice constrast to the ice fosted ring band :-) & the lines a excellant addition to the look. Till later......
warm wishes
Abi
At 14:00 o'clock I have finished her rings and so I wrote to her:
Hi,
now it is accomplished. See the new photos and the links below. Tomorrow I will ship them with the invoice and a certificate for each. They are looking much much much much better in natural especially when the sun is shining. YOUR ring, Your husband's ring As soon as the rings have arrived you would make me happy if you could leaf a comment in my guestbook (menu Gästebuch below you can find the edit box) and please tell me about the reaction of your husband on his birthday. From time to time give some water to your opals. They love it.
It was a greate pleasure to create these rings for you and with you.
best regards and all the best.
Konstantin

Her answer came quickly:
Awe wow, extra special, I have tears in my eyes, truly I do, you have done wonders in so short a time . Thank you very very much, I will let you know of course his reaction. I'm sure he will be thrilled. I will eagerly await their arrival & email with pictures on our hand.
Many hugs
Abi
Ps I will think of a pendant one day you can do for me. :-)
I wrote her back:
every time again
nice rest of the Sunday
Konstantin
